On August 29, a working meeting was held between Andrey Zagorskiy, General Manager at Rostec State Corporation Nacimbio Holding, and Vladimir Mazur, Governor of the Tomsk Region. The parties discussed the current state of affairs at the Tomsk-based enterprise Virion as well as plans for the development of the plant in the coming years.
Andrey Zagorskiy noted that the enterprise is one of the key ones within the NPO Microgen (part of Nacimbio) ecosystem and the largest manufacturer of immunobiological medicines in Russia.
In particular, the Tomsk plant covers about a third of the Russian market's need for vaccines against tick-borne encephalitis. The demand for the vaccine increased by almost 30% in the first quarter of this year alone. NPO Virion is also implementing a project to launch the production of several vaccines with ongoing clinical trials of a new vaccine against tick-borne encephalitis.
“We need to strengthen the interaction between manufacturing workers and university and academic science institutions as we have all the opportunities in the Tomsk Region. Through closer cooperation we will create new vaccines, solve the President’s task regarding proactive import substitution, launch new production lines, and provide new vacancies,” emphasized Governor Vladimir Mazur at the meeting.
The executives discussed plans to expand the production of pharmaceuticals obtained from blood plasma, and cooperation in the field of training competent personnel.
“Our company pays a lot of attention to working with young specialists. We participate in the training of future competent personnel when they still study at a university, invite young talents for internships, practical training, and preparation of theses at enterprises, and also provide targeted training for higher professional education programs in specialized fields. Thus, in Tomsk we have been cooperating with Siberian State Medical University and Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics for many years,” said Andrey Zagorskiy.
Andrey Antonov, Deputy Governor for Economics, and Anastasiya Shevchenko, Acting Head of the Department of Industry and Energy of the Administration of the Tomsk Region, also participated in the working meeting.
NPO Microgen is a key center of competence in the development and production of biological medicinal products against infectious, allergic, and other diseases, which stood at the origins of the development of biopharmaceutical technologies in Russia and is creating innovations today. The company was founded in 2003 as a result of the merger of the industry’s largest state-owned enterprises to provide the population of Russia with essential medicinal products.
